Tim Wilson - January 2022

Advisor & Director, Maine Seeds of Peace

Ask Tim Wilson his perspective on racial equity in Maine and you will get an exhilarating history lesson from a man who remembers being taken by his parents to see Jackie Robinson and Josephine Baker (“they wanted me to see what could be achieved through hard work”), who worked as one of Maine’s first Black camp counselors and high school teachers, and who served on the Cabinets of three Maine Governors. “There’s a lot to my picture of what Maine is versus other people’s picture. We had the very best in Congress coming from Maine. People could look at Maine and it says ‘I lead.’ Well, at that time, that’s what we did in Maine. I’m glad I was a part of it, a small part, but I was around those folks at a time when they meant something to the United States. I look at Maine at different times, the outgrowth of things, and I see pluses. Granted there are minuses… you do the best you can with what you got. Wherever you are.” Since 1993 Tim has been working with Maine Seeds of Peace, a summer camp created for “new generations of leaders who refuse to accept the world as it is and set them on a path to creating the world that could be.” A three-time Maine Hall of Famer (Football, Wrestling, and Sports), Tim is still helping others achieve their best.
